The GRASP Secretariat kick-started the Tai-Sapo transboundary initiative between Ivory Coast and Liberia in 2009 and developed the governing mechanism together with the two GRASP range states. With support from the project, Grebo Forest Reserve was upgraded to full national park in 2017. Now, years later, and with a functioning structure in place, the two countries expressed their interest in formalizing the transboundary work. The GRASP Secretariat continues its role as facilitator.
