Western chimpanzees in Senegal are found in 2 sites: in Tambacounda, in the southeast part of the country, and in the Niokolo-Koba National Park. This population of chimpanzees is the northernmost one, and faces many threats, such as habitat loss, fragmentation of remaining forests, and competition with humans for access to food and water.
