Dr Jane Goodall
03.04.1934 – 01.10.2025
The Great Ape Survival Partnership Secretariat joins the world in mourning the loss of renowned primatologist and GRASP ambassador Dr. Jane Goodall, whose compassion, courage, and vision forever changed how the world sees great apes.
Jane’s pioneering work with wild chimpanzees opened a window into their lives and reminded us of the deep kinship we share. At GRASP, we are forever grateful to the voice she gave to conservation and her groundbreaking work in Gombe Stream National Park, where her early observations of chimpanzee tool use redefined our relationship with great apes. She carried an enduring message of hope and respect for all living beings, inspiring generations to protect and cherish the natural world. GRASP echoes Jane’s call to action in the 2023 GRASP Council meeting, where she said, “It would be a black mark against our generation to allow our closest relatives to become extinct; their future is in our hands”.
Her legacy will continue to guide us as we work to ensure a future where great apes can live safely and freely.
“The greatest danger to our future is apathy” – Jane Goodall.
